WTF: Grocery Lists
Greetings, and Happy Taco Tuesday!
If you’ve been paying attention, you may have noticed a few updates to Taco Tuesday over the past week (actually there is an update out today!!). Some were behind-the-scenes improvements. Others fixed those behind-the-scenes improvements. And a few introduced new features and better performance.
Today’s WTF is focused on one of those features: Adding Meals to the Grocery List.
This feature lets you add all the ingredients from recipes in your meal plan directly to your grocery list. It has been part of Taco Tuesday since the early days, but the process used to take quite a while—sometimes up to 60 seconds.
I rewrote the underlying logic, and now adding a week’s worth of recipes takes just one or two seconds.
But that’s not all!
Previously, you chose a date range and every recipe in that part of your meal plan was automatically added to the grocery list. Now, after selecting a date range, you’ll see a checklist of all the recipes it contains. You can then include—or leave out—individual recipes.
If you select the wrong date range or change your mind, tap the ••• menu in the top-right corner and choose Clear Meal Plan Recipes. You’ll see a checklist that lets you choose which recipes to remove. You can also select Clear All to remove both meal-plan ingredients and one-off grocery items.
Finally, suppose you’ve already created your meal plan and added its recipes to the grocery list, but then decide you want to add one more recipe. You no longer need to clear the list and start over. Open the recipe’s detail page, tap the ••• menu in the top-right corner, and choose Add to Grocery List.
If you’re enjoying Taco Tuesday, I’d love it if you left a review in the App Store. Positive reviews help more people discover the app:
